More Tips For Practicing Self-Care For Busy Homeschool Moms

This week, we continue the topic of prioritizing good self-care for the homeschooling mother. Last week, we discussed creating a good self-care routine, setting up appropriate boundaries, taking breaks when needed, prioritizing sleep, and practicing self-compassion. Here are a few more things that you can do to practice good self-care during this busy homeschooling season:

1. Stay Active: Make sure you schedule time to be active, such as going for a short walk, lifting weights, going to the gym, or doing a simple workout in your living room with the kids around you. It’s essential to get movement that is for you. This can make you feel good about yourself and help improve your mood and overall well-being.

2. Engage in Hobbies: After becoming moms, it's easy to let our interests and hobbies slide. However, it's important to find things that bring you joy so you can stay engaged and present for your children. If you have things you look forward to, you will feel fulfilled.

3. Ask for Help: Many clients come to me because they struggle to ask for help from those around them. It's important to break the pattern of feeling like you have to do everything yourself. Find ways to ask for help— even small gestures can provide great relief and refresh your life. If asking for help is difficult for you, consider seeking a counselor's assistance to work through this, so you don't carry

all the responsibility alone.

4. Delegate Tasks: You can't be an expert teacher, nurturing mother, dutiful laundress, private chef, professional housekeeper, and busy chaperone all at once without delegating some tasks. When you have a busy week ahead, remember it's okay to ask for help and delegate tasks to others.

5. Connect with Others: Make an effort to stay connected with your friends, family or other homecshooling parents to seek support and social interaction. Cultivating relationships that are uniquely yours will add significant value to your life and is an essential practice of self-care.

There are occasions when we feel so overwhelmed with busyness that taking care of ourselves seems nearly impossible. However, there are numerous ways we can prioritize self-care. Sometimes, all it takes is a moment to sit down and consider a few practical ways to carve out time for ourselves. By doing this, we not only enhance our own well-being but also present our families with the best versions of ourselves, ultimately fortifying the family unit.
